The Full Story: Supporting Innovation in Facilities and Space Design

PURPOSEFUL LEARNING SPACES

Having an integrated vision, vocabulary, and team allows for the most effective and efficient design and construction of learning spaces, both large and small.  Education Accelerated has developed a unique engagement model, which we call STAR (for Synergizing Teams for Academic Realization) to connect architects, engineers, educators, designers, financiers, and most importantly parents and students to conceptualize, plan, fund, deliver, and operate learning environments on a global scale.

INNOVATION FOR EARLY DEVELOPMENT

AVENUES SMALL WORLD

Early childhood at Avenues New York is full of joy, discovery, and exploration—and unfolds entirely in two languages. The Early Learning Center (grades nursery, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten) is housed in a state-of-the-art facility, purpose-built for our unique program. The ELC experience is defined by language immersion in Mandarin or Spanish, learning through play, and the fostering of healthy habits. Our beautiful early childhood facility was designed in consultation with Avenues faculty to provide safe and stimulating spaces for different kinds of learning and play. These include a fully landscaped outdoor playground, a multipurpose room for movement, a patio for growing plants and a teaching kitchen. Located on the same block as our original campus, the purpose-built facility provides a cozy environment in which young children can play, learn and thrive.

INNOVATION FOR NEXT LEVEL LEARNING

JOHN S MCCAIN III ES

Buckeye Elementary School District's 9th school aspires to break the traditional school design formula and become a model for schools of the future. Designed to have three learning communities based on age groups K-2, 3-5 and 6-8, each has dedicated maker spaces and shared breakout spaces to facilitate individualized learning opportunities. The conceptual design theme of the project, Taking Flight, is derived from the life of its namesake, the late Sen. John McCain, who served as a jet fighter pilot on an aircraft carrier during his time in the Navy and conceptualizes the school as a springboard for its students to take flight in their lives and education, just as an aircraft carrier facilitates the flight of military aircraft. The world class education provided here will be housed in a high performance learner centric facility that will enable the staff in their mission to cultivate and nurture the skills their students need to prepare them to their futures.

INTEGRATED SCHOOL DESIGN AND EXECUTION

AVENUES NEW YORK

Avenues New York is a 16-grade independent school located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Since opening in 2012, Avenues New York has grown its student body from 740 students to more than 1,900 and has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Avenues New York is part of a growing global network of campuses, including Avenues São Paulo, Avenues Shenzhen and Avenues Silicon Valley and Avenues Online. Avenues’ global admissions policy means that a student admitted to one Avenues campus is admitted to all.

AVENUES SAO PAULO

Opened in August 2018, Avenues São Paulo is the second global campus of Avenues The World School, serving students from the age of 2 to 18. The Avenues São Paulo campus is a 40,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art educational facility, complete with extensive athletics and outdoor play areas, an expansive covered courtyard and a sunny parent café. Avenues São Paulo students enjoy frequent opportunities to collaborate with their peers at Avenues’ campuses in New York and Shenzhen, whether digitally or in-person on an international program.

A CULTURE OF COLLABORATION

The Madison Meadows Middle School is an International Baccalaureate school and the client wanted the design to represent the ideals and culture of the educational program.  The IB program uses a global curriculum and encourages students to become empathetic, self-motivated learners who will contribute to the world positively.  They believe in creating learning communities where students can fully engage and not feel inhibited by barriers. This project consists of a Middle School replacement classroom, administration and media center building on an existing campus. Classroom suites include rooms with a 24’ wide operable glass partition to allows the room to be opened to a large collaboration space. The project consisted of a new 43,000 SF building that replaced two existing buildings with an Administration, Media Center, Art Room, Design Labs, Science Classrooms, an outdoor Science Yard, a Special Education Suite, an outdoor classroom on the second floor, and 11 regular classrooms.
