THE POWER OF PLACE BASED LEARNING

COMMUNITY WELLNESS AND NUTRITION EDUCATION

Roosevelt Elementary School District sought innovation and creativity in school nutrition via their new Culinary Center. The five-acre site houses a unique and innovative multipurpose facility designed to not only serve as the hub for the District’s Child Nutrition Department, but also serve as an instructional resource to enhance and support Wellness and Nutrition Education within the Roosevelt School District. The design and purpose of this state-of-the-art facility is to directly promote healthy lifestyles for the students and residents of the South Mountain community. Roosevelt’s Wellness Center focuses on the ideas that are driving the design of a groundbreaking food warehouse, conference center, and demonstration garden that is accessible to the surrounding neighborhoods.  Hydroponics, solar strategies and other green options, inspired designers and the District’s “Top Chef” to realize this community vision.
